Teuksaat1001 joined World Water Day

World Water Day, on 22 March every year, is about taking action to tackle the water crisis. Today, 1.8 billion people use a source of drinking water contaminated with faeces, putting them at risk of contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio.

World Water Day is a global event held annually since 1993 to raise awareness on the importance of a safe water supply and its role in development and health. Each year, UN-Water — the entity that coordinates the UN’s work on water and sanitation — sets a theme for World Water Day corresponding to a current or future challenge.

The theme of this year’s World Water Day is “safely managed water supply” to align with Sustainable Development Goals for Cambodia. Currently, in Cambodia, 76% of the population have access to a clean water source, however only 69% of rural Cambodia have access to a clean water source. Overall 3.8 million people in Cambodia do not have access to clean drinking water.
